PortableApps Repo & Package Management

I have an idea for a PortableApps repo and package manager but not being a coder, I thought I'd lay it out in the hopes that someone could run with it, in whatever way makes sense coding wise. It's a solution to a problem.

I find that PortableApps (Windows) on a USB thumbdrive is very handy when forced to use Windows, unfortunately it can be awkward to keep those apps updated if you go for weeks or months between needing to plug them in. We need the *nix package management idea to come into play here.

The Ideal FOSS RTS Game?

I thought of an idea for a potentially fun RTS game. It's based on the FOSS mindset. Think of Sim City where you're building a city, managing it's resources, taxing people, keeping a balance between residential, industrial and commerce zones, providing transport etc. Now put that type of balance into FOSS.

It's easier to lay out the various features in a list than describe them so here goes:

How eBook Readers Can Take Off

I have an ebook reader and I love it. For people who enjoy reading for fun and who are fine with the whole electronic screen thing they can be a great investment. They are not cheap however, so it's not a throwaway purchase by any means. I happened to get a great deal on mine and only spend £150 on it. It is still a niche product, so how can this change?

Antiturfer

Many powerful and rich organisations have business dealings they'd rather keep secret, often illegal dealings. They will seek to derail, disrupt and slander anyone who dares expose those dealings. They will of course act through proxies.

System Restore Partition On Linux

For a while now I've been thinking about the way Windows is often pre-installed on new PCs. Most of the time a new PC has two partitions, one with the entire Windows install and users documents, and one with a restore partition. The CD the customer is given with their new PC is a restore CD, not an install CD. This is a way of avoiding giving the customer a full install CD of Windows, which is not good, specially since they paid for a Windows licence built into the price of their PC.
