Producing Content For Free

Journalists working for news organisations want people to pay for their news, which means they can continue reprinting PR statements and get paid for it; business as usual. The logic is that if everyone who does the news is paid, there won't be any free alternative. All of the old media industries are built on the idea that nothing is done unless those who are doing it get paid for it. Hence they are struggling to grasp how times have changed, and don't have the mental capacity to adapt. This applies to all content producers, not just journalists.

The Value Of Expertise

Following on from the previous post about how the internet has changed journalism, I've thought of another element to it. Mainstream journalists like to sell their wares (stories) as being of greater value because they are trained. The problem is that journalists, like politicians are not specialists in anything other than furthering their own careers.

Journalists Facing Extinction

I've found an interesting article about how the internet has affected journalism and something hit me. At first I thought it was a last ditch attempt to glue in some relevancy before they're made extinct. It does raise some thoughts.
