What Changes For Apple After Steve Jobs Resigns As CEO?

Last night there came a shock announcement that Steve Jobs was resigning from the CEO position of Apple with immediate effect, to be replaced by his chosen heir Tim Cook. Apple and Steve Jobs have spent many years cultivating the concept that he is single handedly the midas touch guy responsible for their success, so the without him the world falls right? I doubt it.

Dying For An iPhone

A story has recently broken about how Apple's iPhone and iPad have been collecting users location data. It's something Apple insist they need to collect to help them deliver their services. As an end user you can't opt out, nor delete the data it has already collected. Depending on your circumstances, it could be the mistake that you won't live to make again.

The Microsoft Store

I've had some thoughts after reading an article about a Microsoft Store. The great innovators in chief over at Redmond have struck upon a brilliantly original concept of having brick and mortar stores to sell directly to the public, just don't tell Apple, they might follow suit. Seriously, do they do anything original these days?

Using Karma As A Deterrent

Wouldn't it be fun if there was a karma element to court decisions? Based on the principle of "do unto others what you will have others do unto you". Apple announced a new feature the other day called Launchpad. Launchpad is a registered trademark of Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu Linux.

Is FLOSS The New Age Of Digital Enlightenment?

In the mainstream computing world we have Windows, OSX and Linux / BSD. The first two are proprietary, the second two are open source. You can of course run open source applications on both Windows and OSX but the platforms themselves are closed. The question is more about the skill sets and what users are encouraged to do, and how FLOSS users are better suited to a new environment than Windows or OSX users.
