The UK Attorney General Baroness Scotland has been engulfed in a scandal over a housekeeper she employed who wasn't legally allowed to work in the UK. The housekeeper no longer works for her. What it now comes down to is two women both claiming incompatible stories of how things happened, so it's a case of "who do you believe". The housekeeper claims that Baroness Scotland never asked to see the relevant documents. Baroness Scotland claims she did see them but did not make copies.
I have no knowledge of this case, but would state this. Politicians lie and deceive for a living. It's their job. They will go to incredible lengths to protect their own positions when some scandal breaks that could threaten it. They always try to kill the media storm before it builds. The truth is irrelevant. Accountability is irrelevant. To me, this is just another carbon copy of the same tactic by Baroness Scotland. So who do you believe? I'd say anyone who believes a politicians claims on anything deserves to be lied to, specially when their jobs are at stake. It's entirely possible that she was just lax in her duties as an employer, in which case it'd be an unexpectedly welcome move for her to accept her mistakes and seek to rectify them. This of course, would come under the category of "being accountable", which politicians never apply to themselves.
You would however expect a politician to be more scrupulous in making sure everything was legal and above board, as things like this getting out would put them in a tight spot. It's not as if they don't have contacts to call on. I suspect more will come out, which will see Baroness Scotland continually change her story to reflect the new evidence. Judges who see witnesses continually change their stories in a trial don't believe any of the stories. Knowing she's a politician playing the game, why draw it out? We all know what's coming.
