The Laser Sharp Intellect Of John Prescott

Yesterday I listened to an interview on 5 Live with John Prescott, on the recent news that further evidence had came to light about the News Of The World phone hacking story. He was laser sharp on the dissecting the issues and very passionate in expressing himself. In short that interview showed his attributes that make him a very good MP. Where was this John Prescott on Iraq?

For people who don't know John Prescott is now Lord Prescott; awarded a title after spending a long time as a Labour MP and his most recent role as a long serving Deputy PM to PM Tony Blair. John Prescott was an integral part of the cabinet during all of the good, bad and controversial decisions taken under Tony Blair's time in office.

He was one of the people sent out to defend policies like the Iraq war. That was where his laser sharp intellect and understanding was; on the other foot constantly deflecting, dodging, avoiding, deceiving, lying on the subject of legality. That's right folks, his role was to act dumb when asked questions about new evidence, to repeat that the previous whitewash was not a whitewash and that the war was totally legal. He was playing the "nothing to see here folks, move along" card for his own political gain.

Now his intellect suddenly comes flooding back and he does comprehend issues since he's the one being fobbed off and lied to. John Prescott impressed me in that interview, but he also proved himself to be a hypocrite after his role in the Iraq war and it's fall out.

During the interview he made it very clear about the lack of enquiries, or where enquiries have happened the results were that no evidence was found, which was a lie. He made it clear that the claim of it being one rogue journalist was also lies. In short he laid out what the public already understand, that it's the culture of parasites in journalist roles to do this, and that it must be properly investigated. The repeated attempts by various bodies and News International to sweep it under the carpet and avoid accountability is increasingly obvious.

Perhaps this passion comes from the fact that he believes that his phone was one of those either targeted or hacked and that he's been fobbed off with excuses for years as he tries to pursue it. Had it not happened to him personally would he have given a shit? Probably not. Would he have taken the fake high ground to try and score some political points? Very likely. While his Tory opponent and current PM David Cameron was clinging onto his advisor Andy Couslon, Andy is one weakness that people can attack, and John Prescott being John Prescott would be all over that, although probably not as viciously since John Prescott has moved to the Lords.
