As the years go by, it's increasingly obvious that the PR and ideals of the great American dream are two totally separate things. It turns out that they are actually one and the same thing, you just have to see it from a different perspective. Confused? Read on.
Americans are rightly proud of the various statements they base their society on. They rightly feel they have the right to export this wonderful system on the poor unfortunate sods around the world who don't have it nearly as good as they do. I'll work through a few examples.
A Government Of The People, For The People, By The People
While people complain that nothing changes, that's the point. Replace "the people" with the words "the elite" and this system is already here. It's a constant revolving door between the two parties, industry, lobbyists, lawyers and courtrooms. The whole point is a government of the elite, for the elite, by the elite. Maintaining the status quo is the order of the day.
The average American is called upon every four years to play their part in the charade of choice by choosing one of the two parties, neither of whom represent their interests. The elite don't take chances with such irritants as elections, they don't back one horse knowing it could lose. As long as an election happens every four years, and there's minimal irregularities, the American public can convince itself that it's in a democracy, and they have a real choice.
The Home Of The Brave
Like any smart war mongers, the leaders are always at the back, well protected from actual personal harm. This extends to accountability for their actions too. It's easy to be brave when you spend a sizable chunk of your wealth on new technological weapons to attack small bands of disorganized rebels. It's like a high school bully ruling the primary school yard, he knows everyone is much smaller than him. The real bravery is in the other side, from the people standing up to the bully, standing up for something that's not unadulterated greed.
The Land Of The Free
In a world with lawsuits gone mad, where the RIAA and MPAA roam free threatening anyone and everyone, where the TSA are nothing more than government authorized pedophiles, and the DOJ are staffed by industry insiders whose job it is to rubber stamp anything the elite want to do. This really is the land of the free, where the elite are free to do whatever they want. Minor irritants like law are nothing.
The Freedom Of The Press
You can always count on proper journalists to expose those evildo'ers in the system right? In theory yes, in reality, the media are part of the same revolving door setup. Proper journalists have no place in the US system as it is. Proper journalists would see for themselves how biased their reporting is, how intentionally misleading it is for either the right or the left, and refuse to do it.
In reality, the freedom of the press is here in full glory, the freedom of the press to spin 24 hour fiction, to spread money through it's partners, and hide behind the "balanced press" excuse when asked any questions about it's ethics. It's also free to not cover any stories the public need to know, but which embarrass itself or it's political / financial partners. They are free to be the string pullers of linch mobs, simply point at the target they want harassed and run stories on them with straight faces and lots of stats provided by other parts of the revolving door setup to provide "evidence".
Capitalism Is King
Ah yes, where every problem is solved by allowing private industry to swoop in and service only the profitable parts usually with monopolies which means the cost shoots right up for the customer, and the unprofitable parts are cut because they don't make money. The unprofitable parts are most often the parts most badly needed.
What other system allows the super rich to run companies into the ground, pocketing pension pots, deceiving shareholders, paying out HUGE bonuses, and then being bailed out by the tax payer only to lobby to avoid any sort of accountability or regulation, so they can do it all over again? Capitalism really is king, for the super elite.
Who cares what the average worker thinks, when their pension is obliterated, their wages cut, shares wiped out, jobs are lost and the cost of living shoots up so they're on the street penniless? The system was never about them. Their only role is to vote every four yrs, and do what their told, to work for minimal wages in a shit hole to enrich the already super wealthy elite further. A refinement of the system would mean no pension, so that when the average worker has fulfilled their duties they can die quickly so as not to sap any resources that could be spent on lavish parties or fancy cars.
When the whole system is built around greed and money, anything that offers the average American a better way to do something, where they can save some money and raise their standard of life a little, is deemed illegal. The elite then seek to demonize it, lobby to change laws to make it actually illegal. If you bypass the existing industry and it's monopolies fees you're a thief, being screwed at every turn is the American way.
God Bless America
Part of what sells the illusion to the average American, is that there's a layer of religion keeping it humble. At a government level this is a country run by special interests, screwing not only their own people, but through abusing international treaties and laws, the rest of the world too. It's a system who believe they own whatever they see, no matter who currently has possession of it. It's a system that invents pretexts to start military action or covert regime change to overthrow a democratic leader to instill a US puppet. It's a system of lies and deception fueled by greed.
If "God bless America" means "the invisible man in the sky looked at every country and it's actions, and decided to pick us" then it reflects the US system as God's ethics. If it's a way of saying a little prayer asking for a blessing, why would a supposedly meek, generous, peace loving God bless a nation with a system of government comprised of greedy warmongering liars?
It could of course be like a way of balancing the karma. It's seemingly OK to live 6 days per week as a child molesting drunk wife beater as long as you do a weekly confession of the details to wipe the slate clean with the big fella. For every "God bless America" it helps shift the balance a little more away from vertical. At the very least it helps continue the illusion that it's actually a system others envy and want to copy.
