Earlier today I wrote a blog post about an odd thing I've experienced in Iceweasel on Debian Squeeze. I've since been accused of calling Debian "evil" or at least implying it by a known IRC troll. That was not the intent, but hey, exaggerating and misrepresenting is the trademark of a troll isn't it?
"Evil" is a religious term, I don't use it in any other context. I certainly don't apply it to a company or project; not even Microsoft for all their crimes would be called "evil" by me. Yes they should still be punished for them, but that's a different thing. So starting with the "evil" premise will not get any answer.
It was also pointed out that it would be a bug. This is something I should have thought of, or at least in a more direct way. I don't sign up for sites, I don't join mailing lists and I'm hesitant at giving out my details like email address. In the past I have tried reporting issues only to have them ignored or ask for information I can't provide. Blogging about an issue is me bringing it to someone else's attention in my own way. I'm working on the premise that Debian people don't only read their own stuff, it may or may not be true, but I'm assuming that they are more connected with the world around them, and the various Linux blog planets, which my blog is aggregated on.
After this "discussion" I decided to join the #debian IRC channel to let someone know, and was pointed to a few ways to report it. It then occurred to me that I'd seen a Reportbug option on my menu, so I figured this was the time to click it and see what it did. On the first run it does need info like email address, name etc which is fair enough. After that it handily searches through the listed bugs for that app. Unfortunately I had to try to work through the wizard about 9 times before it finally got to the end, it kept vanishing on me for no reason. I assume it crashed. Eventually I "think" I may have reported it, although it may have crashed before that. If I've read it right, I'll get an email within an hour confirming it.
If that worked correctly, perhaps it's time to also report a bug on Reportbug.
