A Change Is As Good As A Rest

One of the signs that we're getting older is the tendency to narrow down things in life that we like, opinions we hold and principles we have. I've noticed that I'm less and less interested in trying out new distros or environments, I've grown at home with the Debian family running XFCE. For the last year this has also extended to my choice of NuoveXT2.2 icon set too. It's time for a change.

Debian Squeeze XFCE with Shiki-Dust GTK theme and Mint-X iconsI have long had a screen layout that I like to use, from the single panel along the bottom, apps menu on the bottom left and the clock, system tray etc on the bottom right. Linux Mint is the first "out of the box" distro I've liked and could use without modifying, well apart from the wallpaper but that always gets changed. The Mint 7 icons were awesome, and the Mint layout is very close to what I prefer anyway. The Mint 10 icons are very different, but back on form. They are a combination of Faenza and Elementary, with green folders instead of beige. I decided that I wanted that set Mint-X and Mint-X Dark on my desktop and netbook Debian Squeeze installs. Since this is a different colour scheme it made me relook at the window border theme and GTK theme to see if that would be better with a little change too. The result is now a Shiki-Dust window border, and a matching Shiki-Dust GTK theme.

To go along with this new revamping of my environment, I've decided to change my avatar as seen on this site, Identi.ca, Twitter; well, the ones I use and remember to go change. It used to be the unamed foreman in Futurama, I may use that again, it's a brilliant image. It's now a crop from a Star Wars Expanded Universe graphic novel. The character is called Senator Garm Bel Iblis.

The three founding figures of the Rebellion were all Senators in the Republic Senate as Darth Sidious swept them aside in his endgame in Revenge Of The Sith; Senators Bail Organa of Alderaan, Mon Mothma of Chandrilla and Garm Bel Iblis of Corellia. Bel Iblis had disagreements mainly with Mon Mothma and left the Rebellion, taking his people and fleet with him in preparation for having to defend the people of the galaxy against what he feared Mon Mothma would become. He eventually came back into the fold to take his place as a political and military mastermind giving the newly formed New Republic victory after victory leading to the Empire being relegated to a minor isolated player in the galaxy.
