Free Ad Space

As a way to help small FOSS projects I've decided to offer 2 free ad slots on the sidebar of my blog. Terms and conditions apply as you'd expect. These terms and conditions can change at any time, may not be complete and I am the final judge of whether or not something qualifies. I want to offer FOSS projects a free advertising slot, which I will rotate as and when I see fit.

I will try to co-ordinate with the projects if they have an event upcoming, or a major new release due, to give them a little more publicity. This is not reciprocal, I ask nothing in return. To qualify your project must be released under a (non-MS) OSI approved FOSS license, and preferably be cross platform. The slots are 125×125px squares situated on the sidebar. I want to promote the use of patent free open standards, so there may be restrictions on the file types accepted ie no flash. If you’d like your project included in the rotation please email me with your project details and a link for me to check out.

If I consider it to qualify I’ll be in touch to ask for an image to use, and the link you want it to point to. I will give a higher priority to the smaller projects who can’t afford to advertise. As I am still getting used to WordPress it’d be great if there was a script or plugin which would let me create a pool, preferably with a priority rating and have it rotate for me. If anyone knows how I can do this please let me know. Don’t waste your time asking if:

  • Your project either ignores Linux / BSD or treats it as a second class OS.
  • Your parent company is hostile to Linux / FOSS
  • Your project is built in Mono, or any other patent trap

*Update*

I've found a WordPress plugin called Random / Rotating Ads V2 which seems to fit the bill in regards to pools of adverts, and rotating them automatically. I'm not sure how the dimensions of the adverts and their positions on the sidebar will work, so they may be different from the 125x125px but they will still be on the sidebar, and there will still be 2 free slots.

*New Update*

I have switched from WordPress to Drupal, but the offer remains.
